The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has declared strong commitment to the objectives and goals of the Women in Energy Network, the platform hosting female professionals in the Nigerian energy industry.
The company stated on Thursday that it would continue to align with WIEN in driving gender diversity in the energy industry by providing all members of its staff with equal opportunity to enhance their capabilities, sharpen their competencies, progress their careers and grow in their jobs.
Managing Director of EKEDC, Dr. Tinuade Sanda, who hosted a visiting delegation in her office, Marina Lagos, promised to afford her staff the opportunity to tap into the full benefits of WIEN membership, adding that the company stands the prospect of taping into the knowledge bank of the group.
As corporate member of WIEN, Dr Sanda also pledged full responsibility of EKEDC to the group, promising to encourage all willing members of the company’s staff to explore membership of WIEN. The delegation was in EKEDC on a curtsey visit to interact with the management as part of WIEN’s advocacy to dismantle workplace barriers to career advancement of the female gender.
The group which promotes gender balance in workplaces also drives strong initiatives towards capacity building and sundry support for women who play in the male dominated energy industry. WIEN provides credible platform for women in the sector to network and build confidence and links to progress their careers or businesses. Dr. Sanda said the visit to her company amplifies the determination of women in the industry to make significant contribution in the prevailing movement to reinvent the Nigerian energy industry under an emerging legal, fiscal and diversified landscape.
She made it clear that reforms across the energy industry are driven by technology and service orientation, adding that EKEDC is delivering enhanced services through application of technology and innovation to improve customer experience.
She did the goal was to sustainably, reliably and safely supply electricity for utilization for in homes and businesses. According to Dr Sanda , Eko Disco has a track record of excellent performance in reliable power supply to its customers.
With digital platforms like the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition – Distribution Management System (SCADA-DMS), Dr Sanda stated, EKEDC has consistently receives top ratings from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). She declared that the company’s successes were made possible by providing equal opportunity to its entire staff irrespective of gender: she added that the company is gender sensitive and has provided high number of management positions for qualified women.
Dr Sanda stated that EKEDC would remain an equal opportunity employer which would continue to explore human talents that innate in both male and female workers for deployment in requisite positions.
She acknowledged the role of organizations like WIEN in providing invaluable mentoring and knowledge-based opportunities for women in energy industry, adding that EKEDC would continue to tap into the skills reserves available on the WIEN platform in growing the knowledge base and networks of the staff and company.
WIEN team was led by two members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), including Charlotte Essiet, who is the Director Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, AOS Orwell Limited.
They appealed to the management to encourage and support the women professionals in EKEDC to be part of the advocacy movement for gender diversification and balance in the industry.
The WIEN delegation was led to a tour of the SCADA-DMS of EKEDC; the innovative network solution centre which was launched in 2020 to promptly and efficiently monitor all activities and resolve issues on the networks.
