WIEN Collegiate Community Concludes “Mentorship with Rowena” Programme

The Women in Energy Network (WIEN) proudly marks the successful conclusion of the “Mentorship with Rowena” programme, an eight-month group mentorship series designed exclusively for members of the WIEN Collegiate Community. Launched in January 2025 and concluded in August 2025, the initiative has served as a transformative journey of learning, growth, and preparation for life beyond the classroom.

“Mentorship with Rowena” was a structured monthly mentorship series facilitated by Prof. Rowena Torres-Ordonez, an experienced industry leader with over 30 years of experience in the energy sector. Over the course of eight sessions, collegiate members had the unique opportunity to learn directly from Rowena’s wealth of professional experience, insights, and practical guidance on navigating the energy industry and building impactful careers.

Each monthly session addressed critical areas including career readiness, personal branding, leadership skills, networking, professional ethics, and the importance of resilience. By combining knowledge-sharing with real-life stories and interactive discussions, the programme equipped participants with tools to confidently transition from academic life to the professional world.

Preparing for the Future

Although the mentorship sessions formally ended in August, the Collegiate Community is now engaging in mock interview sessions as a continuation of the programme. These mock interviews are designed to simulate real-world recruitment processes, enabling students to practice, gain feedback, and sharpen their readiness for life after school.

This hands-on approach not only boosts confidence but also ensures that mentees are well-prepared to seize opportunities and excel in their chosen career paths.

The success of “Mentorship with Rowena” underscores WIEN’s commitment to creating pathways for young women to thrive in the energy sector and beyond. The programme has strengthened the Collegiate Community’s culture of mentorship and has set a strong foundation for future leadership-focused initiatives.

Reflecting on the journey, Mrs Asanimo Omezi, WIEN Executive Secretary, commended both the mentor and mentees for their dedication:
“Mentorship with Rowena has been a remarkable example of how structured mentorship can shape lives and prepare young women for leadership. We are proud of the Collegiate Community for their commitment, and grateful to Prof Rowena Torres-Ordonez for sharing her time, experience, and wisdom.”

Looking ahead, as the mentees transition from mentorship sessions to mock interviews and prepare for the realities of the professional world, WIEN remains committed to supporting their journey. The lessons, connections, and confidence gained from “Mentorship with Rowena” will continue to inspire participants long after the programme’s close.
